A recreation director who used to work for the city of Pittsburgh has apparently settled her age-discrimination lawsuit against her former employer, according to federal court documents.

Paula Meyer, a mid-40's Pittsburgh resident and employee, sued the city for age discrimination by her former supervisor. Meyer is the one with the problem because she is being discriminated against. The suit ended with a settlement and Meyer received a new supervisor.

A North Side woman accused of shooting at a car full of people — and possibly accidentally killing a man in her own car — pleaded guilty to lesser charges Tuesday and will serve two years of probation.

Briquel Good, a 30 year old North Side resident of Pittsburgh, pulled up alongside her ex-boyfriends car and opened fire. She plead guilty to three counts of reckless endangerment, lesser charges than she was originally facing. The problem is had by both Good and her ex, Good facing the criminal charges, and the ex having sustained injuries.

UPMC wages miserly

Franklin Lavelle works for UPMC, Pittsburgh's biggest employer. Despite working for over twenty years, Lavelle makes merely $12.47 an hour. He's fighting for a black workers rights union. The problem is the wage disparity for minority workers, and the people with the problem are all the minorities. 


Smoking and other tobacco use at Pittsburgh-owned parks will be prohibited under an ordinance Pittsburgh City Council approved Tuesday.

Tobacco consumption at Pittsburgh city parks is now prohibited. The legislation is not designed to penalize smokers, but rather to improve park behaviors. The city has previously banned smoking at playgrounds. The problem is the amount of cigarette smokers in the city, and this will help reduce that. 

Already under federal indictment for failing to pay more than $1 million in payroll taxes, the owner of the IceoPlex at Southpointe continued underpaying his taxes, federal prosecutors say.

60 year old Steven Lynch, the owner of IceoPlex, now faces 28 counts of willful failure to pay payroll taxes. He previously faced 10 counts, and another 18 counts have been added totaling $1.5 million. The indictment said Lynch ordered his employees not to pay the taxes they owed for employee paychecks. Lynch has brought the problem on himself by failing to provide assets to his employees.

  1. Hi, Erik! Good job on finding these articles! The first one is really intriguing to me since I wonder why the woman would still push to work for someone who she thinks discriminated against her. Would it not be better for her to work somewhere else where someone can appreciate and duly reward her work rather than force someone to hire her that she knows will cause her more problems down the line? I applaud her for sticking up for herself though!

  2. Great job on your post, Erik! I thought the article about the woman opening fire on the car full of people, and possibly killing a man in her own car, seemed especially interesting because of the punishment she ended up getting. Two years of probation does not seem like a sufficient punishment for a crime like that even though she pleaded guilty.
